1: your first attempt in music production will not be good and it is totally fine. The biggest mistake is thinking that you can make the first attempt great. You need to learn you need to be creative you need to try different stuff so you need to move quickly try new things just don’t get stuck on one track. Keep being creative keep writing keep recording keep trying out new ideas. As your skill set grows you can go back to those original songs you can open them up again and start muting all of those crazy overdubs.

2: don’t wait to be creative: the idea that you have to wait to be creative is just a fallacy it is one of those things as myths that are propagated that you have to sit there and wait for the creative juices to flow. The reality is that this is a career choice therefor it’s a job and believing that the only time you can work is when you feel creative means you will get nothing done. So create regardless work through those times when you feel like you are not at your most creative state. Non of us are always on the creative peak all the time you have to work up to it you have to get to that zone because focus comes from being focused.
3: you don’t need to know everything in order to do music. You don’t have to be perfect its better to make mistakes than doing nothing and the way that you learn is to make those mistakes you should be spending minimum 40% of your time per day producing writing playing whatever it is. And then spend maximum amount of time going online finding tutorials seeking out information and stuff and when you do seek out those tutorials seek them out for a purpose. If you are working on something and you have an issue with drum mixing or recording acoustic guitar or something like that find videos specifically for that find information for that don’t get into that trap of just watching endless amount of every bodies opinion.

4: most of the tools that you thing you need you don’t need at all these days almost all of them have got some virtual instruments built in already they have got some kind of basic drum programming in there as well already plus EQ compression, delays, reverbs, limiters you name it everything is built in your DIW there is nothing stopping you from making great music. Once you get familiar with that tools you will see some limitations of one or two things but don’t worry you will get to know once you will get into it you just need to acquire the knowledge and the reality is that you can make great music on your software with stock plugins you can do mixing with stock plugins and many of the producers out there are using stock plugins. You don’t have to have all the latest and greatest to make good music just get started.
